Different types of backyard fire pits

There is a wide variety of fire pit options, materials, sizes, etc. available on the market. From wood burning fire pits to gas and propane, there really is no such thing as the “best fire pit”; rather, the best fire pit for what you want it for!

There are many variables when looking for the best fire pit for you, including:

  1. Fuel type (gas fire pit, wood burning fire pit, propane fire pit, natural gas fire pit)
  2. Style (fire pit tables, tiki fire pit, compact size, portable fire pit, etc.)
  3. Materials (stainless steel construction, heavy duty steel, pavers or stone, etc.)
  4. Key Features (smokeless fire pit, clean burning fire, removable ash tray or ash pan, log grate, protective cover, grill grate, rain cover, lava rocks)

A fire pit provides a great way to enjoy the outdoors, creating warmth and ambiance for friends and family.

There is a wide variety of fire pit types and materials to choose from to create the perfect mood for any evening.

Wood burning pits are basic designs made up of bricks or stones and situated on a concrete pad.

Gas or propane models offer convenience with portable stainless steel designs and smokeless flame technology, and can be hooked up to a propane tank or natural gas line, while basic and decorative models provide fun variations in styles.

With so many different options available, backyard fire pits can be tailored to fit any outdoor space!

How to choose the best backyard fire pit for you

Choosing the perfect backyard fire pit for your needs can seem daunting, but with a few simple tips you can make sure your fire pit is perfect for your space. First, consider what size of fire pit you want. Fire pits come in all shapes and sizes so first think about how much space you have available and what size would look best.

Next, decide on the shape – round, square or even an odd shape? Choose whatever best fits the design aspirations you have for your outdoor area.

Additionally, think about the type of fuel you would like to use – wood or gas? If using a wood burning fire pit, it is important to pick a model that has air vents built in so there’s enough airflow to keep the flames burning brightly without too much smoke. And, keep in mind that the size of fire pit will determine what size logs you can use–you may need a larger fire pit to fit “regular”-sized logs. On the other hand, gas fire pits may be much more adaptable to your space.

Finally, selecting a fire pit made from durable materials like steel or stone will ensure that your fire pit will last for years to come. With these tips in mind, finding the perfect backyard fire pit should be easy as pie!

Stainless steel smokeless fire pits: worth the premium price?

Solo Stove is a brand you’re likely to see popping up in backyards across the U.S. (we have to admit, we do love their Solo Stove Bonfire model!) The latest innovation in backyard fire pits, these stainless steel fire pits provide a unique experience that combines warmth and ambiance with convenience and style. Other versions/brands include a table style fire pit, very portable designs, and even an Amazon brand!

Whether you’re looking for a cozy spot to relax around or an eye-catching centerpiece for your next party, stainless steel fire pits are a perfect fit for any backyard oasis!

This provides a cleaner burn with less smoke produced than other types of fire pits, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking to enjoy their outdoor space without sacrificing comfort or safety.

The Bonfire model also comes with a protective cover that helps keep the flame contained, as well as a removable ash pan which makes cleanup easy.

Not only does the Solo Stove Bonfire look great, but it performs just as well as it looks (see below for the ultimate review guide where–spoiler!–we like the Solo Stove)! Additionally, its heat retention capabilities allow you to extend your evening into the late hours of the night, while still keeping everyone warm.

Overall, we highly recommend the Solo Stove Bonfire for anyone wanting to create an inviting outdoor atmosphere in their backyard oasis!

The benefits of having a backyard fire pit

Fire pits make for great additions to any backyard. Not only do they offer a cozy atmosphere where family and friends can gather around, but they also provide multiple benefits from keeping insects away to providing much-needed warmth in the cold months.

In addition, having a backyard fire pit means there’s no need to wait for a park or campground barbeque in order to enjoy a delicious and smoky meal cooked over an open flame. A fire pit is truly a great outdoor amenity – one that you and your family will be sure to enjoy!

How to use a backyard fire pit

Using a backyard fire pit to bring family and friends together is a great way to celebrate special occasions or just spend quality time outdoors.

One of the most important safety tips when hosting a fire pit gathering is to keep it away from potential hazards like trees, roof overhangs, or anything else that could easily catch on fire. Additionally, do not pour flammable liquids onto the fire, as this is extremely dangerous.

Enjoying smores as you sit around a backyard fire pit is an excellent way to create wonderful memories for all who attend.

Make sure that you have an ample supply of wood or charcoal for your guests and consider purchasing wind guards to protect the fuel source from being extinguished by strong gusts of wind.

Setting up your outdoor fire pit area with attractive chairs and blankets around the pit will create an inviting atmosphere where everyone can relax and bask in the warmth of good company.

Go ahead, take advantage of your fire pit to cook up some hot dogs and marshmallows!

Tips for maintaining your backyard fire pit

Maintaining your backyard fire pit doesn’t have to be a hassle. For starters, stainless steel is the ideal material for fire pits, as it resists corrosion and rust.

Additionally, make sure to clean out burned ashes out of the fire pits regularly to help prevent build-up.

If you’re not using the fire pit on a daily basis, it’s strongly recommended that you cover it up when not in use (many fire pits come with a basic rain cover or heavier protective cover).

That’s because outdoor elements can lead to discoloration–although this might start with a nice natural patina, continued weather exposure may lead to damage over time.

And finally, if possible, try and avoid leaving unsightly burn marks by preventing large logs from rolling off outside of the saddle or patio base – doing so will help improve your pit’s aesthetic appeal in the long run.

By investing in a backyard fire pit, you can totally re-define the way you spend your time outside!

Alternatives to a fire pit

One alternative to fire pits for creating an outdoor haven for friends and family are patio heaters. A patio heater uses either natural gas or propane as a fuel source to provide warmth in colder climates. They work by heating the surrounding air, providing warmth in areas with higher wind speeds and less direct sunlight.

Unlike fire pits, which can produce smoke and ash, patio heaters do not require burning any combustible materials—making them much safer options for those who live in urban areas. And compared to having one pit, patio heaters may provide more heat if you use multiple spread out across your space.

Another great option is an outdoor fireplace. Outdoor fireplaces come in a variety of shapes and sizes, making them perfect for almost any budget or area size.

Many models feature a spark screen that helps in keeping sparks from flying onto nearby surfaces—helping keep family, friends, and properties safe from potential danger.

And unlike traditional wood-burning fireplaces, some models are designed to burn pellets, logs, or other types of fuel—making them more efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional methods of burning wood.

Finally, electric fire bowls offer a convenient way to enjoy the ambiance of flames without producing smoke or ashes into the environment. These bowls are typically made of metal and contain electric coils which generate heat when plugged into an electrical outlet. This type of flame is often used indoors and can also be used outdoors when connected to the proper safety circuit breakers. Electric fire bowls generally come in round or square shapes and various sizes—making it easy to find one that fits your needs!

Love the idea of a fire pit, but have a smaller space? A tabletop fire pit (or fire table) could be the perfect compromise!

Tabletop fire pits are a great way to create a cozy atmosphere outdoors without having to take up too much space. This type of fire pit makes it easy to enjoy the warmth and ambiance of a campfire in any backyard, patio, or deck. Some also come with glass barriers and actual table space, perfect for resting food or to keep snacks and drinks on while enjoying the great outdoors!

A tabletop fire pit is usually made of durable materials such as steel or cast iron and they use either wood or charcoal as fuel sources. Many also come with the option to add decorative lava rocks for an additional aesthetic touch.

One major benefit of using a fire table or tabletop fire pit is that it can help keep your guests warm outdoors even during colder days or nights. Many tabletop fire pits come with built-in grilling grates that make it easy to cook food over the open flames without having to worry about smoke wafting through your area. Additionally, these grills are perfect for roasting marshmallows for smores or hot dogs for an outdoor picnic.

Unlike traditional outdoor fireplaces, a tabletop fire pit requires very little upkeep and maintenance. They’re also easy to move around if you need to relocate them from one location to another—making them perfect for camping trips and other outdoor activities.

However, regardless of which fire pit design you choose–even with gas fire pits or smokeless fire pits–you still need to take certain safety precautions when using them, such as always keeping flammable liquids away from the flames and never leaving any burning embers unattended.

Overall, a tabletop fire pit offer an excellent way for people to enjoy the warmth of a campfire without taking up too much space in their outdoor area. From keeping guests warm during chilly weather (is there anything better than a little cool air at night in the summer??) to providing an ideal spot for cooking food outdoors—these handy little devices can make any outdoor party or gathering more enjoyable and memorable!

Whether it’s an intimate dinner gathering with friends and family or taking the time to relax alone while watching the flames dance and blaze, there’s nothing quite like a backyard fire pit. And, there is bound to be a fire pit design for everyone!

By closely following the tips outlined above, your fire pit is sure to bring many memories of fun, laughter and comfort for years to come. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to start shopping for the right backyard fire pit and begin making every night special.

Best for the Basics: Yaheetech Multifunctional Fire Pit Table 32in Square Metal Firepit Stove

Look, this company claims you can use the “Multifunctional Fire Pit” as a regular fire pit, or as a grill, or even as a mini ice chest to keep drinks cold for your party …

Maybe? But at this price, it is really just a nice-looking fire pit that will do the job. Just make sure to keep it covered well, or pull inside when it rains/snows–the steel on this one does not feel as sturdy as some of the others, so we’ll update this review over time (we left ours outside in the New England weather–we’ll see what happens!).

Best Portable Fire Pit: Bond Manufacturing 67836 54,000 BTU Fire Pit with Locking Lid & Carry Handle Portable Steel Propane Gas Fire Pit Outdoor Firebowl (18.5″)

It’s not huge. But, that’s what you want when you’re talking about a “portable” fire pit. This one does the trick.

Its adjustable flame control knob allows you to set the desired temperature and is equipped with an automatic safety shut-off feature that kicks in when the gas level gets too low. The propane tank (not included, but takes a “regular” sized tank) is conveniently stored inside the wheeled base, so it can be easily refilled when needed.
